The wedding reception venue is perhaps one of the biggest expenses. Before you start looking for a suitable place, you need to decide what sort of party you really want. Do you want a traditionally formal event with a sit-down dinner, followed by dancing? (there’s another expense for the music). Or would you prefer a quieter perhaps more intimate affair for a few people.
Regardless of what others think you need, as a couple you both need to take some time to tell each other what you’d like. And then compromise to fit your budget.
If you choose a formal wedding venue, you’ll probably have to also accept their catering arrangements. Whilst this will take a lot of stress away from you – you’ll also have to be prepared to fork out a lot of dollars for this.
Choosing your venue and your catering should be done at the same time.Allow extra money for emergencies that might crop up – such as an increase in food prices etc.
Some of the alternatives are:
- The traditional reception centre
- Hire a hall and organise your own caterers
- A BBQ in the backyard –yours or somebody elses’
- A picnic in the park / beach
- Many hotels / clubs have a dining room that they will make available
- A boat (large enough of course)
- A marquee
